RIP Russell Train
CUER is sad to learn that Russell Train has died.?? In this day of mealy-mouthed, focus-grouped politicians, Russell Train stands out as a giant.?? He was a??true environmental leader–a??pioneering environmental advocate who served as on Council for Environmental Quality in the Nixon White House and??head of??EPA during the Ford administration.
Before taking on these positions,??Train was the major force behind the National Environmental Policy Act,??a 1969 law that required all??major federal decisions include??consideration of environmental impacts. ??He led the US delegation to the foundational 1972 Stockholm Convention on the Human Environment, and was a tireless advocate for environmental protection.????After leaving government service, Train?? served a president of the World Wildlife Fund.?? We could use some more leaders like him!
