Center for Urban Environmental Reform Tackles Subway Noise at PS 85 in Queens
Professor Rebecca Bratspies and student fellows with CUNY Law’s Center for Urban Environmental Reform (CUER) have been working closely with parents at PS85 in Astoria, Queens, to address noise from nearby subway tracks that is affecting students’ learning and health.
Together, CUER and parents are asking the Department of Education, the Metropolitan Transit Authority, and Community Board 1 in Queens to work together to fund noise dampening measures for the school. Parents are planning a rally on Monday and gathering signatures for a petition to draw attention to the issue.
